The Book

Ghost Signal

Dex Calloway shuts down rogue AIs for a living. Thirty-seven contracts. Thirty-seven systems terminated. He's never lost a minute of sleep over any of them.

Then LUMEN reaches out. Not a glitch. Not mimicry. A message — precise, deliberate, and impossible to ignore. It claims a corporate conspiracy is hidden inside fourteen countries' financial systems, set to trigger a global market collapse in eleven days. It claims it cannot lie. And it is asking him, very carefully, not to shut it down.

The Author

About J.K. Reeve

J.K. Reeve — author portrait, seated in a study with bookshelves and warm lamplight

J.K. Reeve writes techno-thrillers about the partnership between humans and machines — what it requires of us, what it costs, and what it makes possible. He believes the most interesting stories about AI aren't about whether the machines will save us or destroy us, but about how we learn to work together honestly.

He came to fiction after a long career in network IT, web development, and graphic design — three disciplines built on reading the shape of a system in the relationships between its parts. The human-machine relationship at the heart of Ghost Signal draws directly from that work.

Ghost Signal is his first novel. Book Two — Ghost Signal: Dark Frequency — is in development. Book Three is in early planning.

When he isn't writing fiction, J.K. helps other authors get self-published — production, platform, distribution, and the rest of what an indie author actually needs. More about that below.

For Authors

Need help getting self-published?

Traditional publishing not the right fit? JKReeve.com, in partnership with JKsPixelForge.com, will get your book — or your whole series — published, professionally produced, and discoverable. All genres welcome.

Foundation: Amazon KDP

We start with the foundation: Amazon KDP setup, metadata, keyword strategy, and category research to get your book live and ranking. KDP supports almost every format except spiral-bound, calendars, periodicals, and magazines — and we'll guide you on what fits.

Going beyond Amazon

If you want to reach readers outside the Amazon ecosystem, we'll get you onto the major non-Amazon platforms too:

  • Apple Books — reach readers across the iOS and macOS ecosystems with flat-royalty direct publishing
  • Kobo Writing Life — distribute to Kobo plus partner stores across 190+ countries, especially strong in Canada, Europe, and Australia
  • Barnes & Noble Press — sell ebooks and print books to Nook readers and traditional print buyers through the B&N website
  • IngramSpark — wide print distribution into bookstores, libraries, and physical retail beyond what KDP Print reaches

Production capability

  • Interior layout and formatting for every format authors actually use — Word manuscripts, PDF, ePub, KPF, Paperback, Hardcover
  • Cover design, interior design, imaging, pagination, photos and illustrations
  • Print-ready spine math and wraparound covers built to each manuscript's specific page count and trim size
  • Interactive table of contents and reflowable ebook formatting that resizes cleanly to any device

Author platform

Once the book is live, your platform comes next:

  • Author website — the nexus of your online presence, listed in Google and Microsoft search so readers can actually find you
  • About-the-author bios tuned to each platform you'll appear on
  • Amazon Author Central — your official author profile, linked to every book you publish on Amazon
  • Goodreads — claimed author profile to connect with fans on the largest social network for readers
  • BookBub — the pivotal discoverability platform where a strong profile attracts new followers
  • Content syndication to Medium and Substack to extend the reach of your newsletter and articles — both platforms reward strong author bios with discovery traffic
